If one focuses on the day-to-day price movements of Bitcoin (BTC), which is very volatile, one loses track of the long-term benefits of owning BTC. Those benefits can be expressed in numerous ways.
Take the simple “Price Increase Since Purchase” or PISP benefit. Today’s (8/7/25) Price Increase of BTC is 1.26%. Recent past daily movements have seen a lot of down days. But the recent 5-day Price Increase has been 3.33%. The 30-day has been 6.38%. The 180-day has been 19.33%. YTD is 24.51%. 1-year is 104.56%. 5-year is 888.07%. Since inception on May 6, 2016 is 25,520.52%.
Now let’s apply the same evaluation to Ethereum (ETH), the 2nd largest crypto digital asset. Today’s (8/7/25) Price Increase of ETH is 3.74%. But again, recent past daily movements have included down days. But the 5-day Price Increase has been 12.86%. The 30-day has been 48.93%. The 180-day has been 42.45%. YTD is (one might say) only 14.95%. But the 1-year is 55.49%. 5-year is 910.74%. Since inception on Aug. 8, 2015 (recent 10-year anniversary) is 137,147%. Divide that by 10 years and you get a simple arithmetic result of 13,715% annual PISP if one bought it upon its founding.
Let’s look at Ripple Labs (XRP), the 3rd largest crypto digital asset. Today down 0.45%. 5-day Price Increase 12.04%. 30-day PI is 31.25%. 180-day is about 35%. 5-year is 997%. Since inception (around 8yrs. ago) is 1,808%.
Here’s another large one (#6) in terms of market cap and a most interesting company in Solana (SOL). Up about 2.5% today. 7-day Price Increase is about 16%. 30-day about 14%. 180-day is almost 13%. 1-year is about 18.5%. 5-year is 22%. And since 4/10/2020 it’s up 21,832%.
The moral of the story is: the longer ones timeframe in owning BTC, the more dramatic is the PISP. The longer ones intended buy & hold experience, the more irrelevant becomes the volatility. The longer one holds and experiences the types of Price Increases noted above, the more one realizes any other questions re the validity of BTC are relatively irrelevant.
